Cherry Cheese Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke
Just a same Joanne Fluke mystery. Good
Valley of Dreams by Lauraine Snelling
Lauraine Snellings newest novel takes place in the Dakotas in 1906. Cassie Lockwood's parents have died and their business partner has run the wild west show she stars in, into bankruptcy. So Cassie, her friends, a young man and an Indian pack up her wagon and livestock and head for her father's dream valley. Very good, but definitely a lead in for future books.
Sorry by Zoran Drvenkar
Adult subject matter but very interesting perspective and style of writing. Author writes in a way that you are the bad guy and the good guy.
The Journey by Wanda Brunstetter
Young Amish man, a twin leaves home to find himself in another Amish community 2 states away.
The Healing by Wanda Brunstetter
Second book in series with a third to follow in the fall. Young Amish girls searching for a hubby. English girl Bonnie is posing as a rival.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
An amazing book which I couldn't put down. I had to go buy the rest of the trilogy. Also, I can't wait for the movie to come out, it looks great!
Death of an Outsider by M.C. Beaton
Usual Hamish fare. Very good. A murder is found and the body is in the lobster tank. The lobsters eat it all. Scratches are left all over the bones.
This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Trooper
Fun, realistic examination of a marriage that has ended - but a connection forever. The main character connects everything to a moment of devastation that would throw anyone's world a kilter.
The Library on the border with Northern Ontario, Canada. Check out our community. We are small, sometimes cold (we aren't called the Icebox of the Nation for nothing), yet offer a wonderful place to live, play and grow together.

Video class projects
Yesterday we had a couple of kids complete the video/movie making class. Their short library commercials are below.

If you are interested in learning how to use the video cameras and editing computer then contact the library to sign up for a class. Classes are held on an as requested basis when it is convenient for both student and instructor. So even though yesterday the library was closed, we were able to get everyone together (including the new and old instructor, as our old instructor is graduating soon and moving on.)

Adult Reviews
Desolation Angels by Jack Kerouac
An amazing look into the life of Jack Kerouac. One of his finest books in my opinion. I couldn't put it down.
Off the Road by Carolyn Cassady
An amazing book which shows us another side of all those from the "Beat Generation." This book captures the feminine perspective of that rare glimpse in time, it also gives us a more complete idea of all the men's personalities by a voice in the midst of it all.
Selected Letters by Jack Kerouac
This book was amazing, my very first experience seeing the author exactly as he was with those he corresponded with. The notes by the editor explaining the letters are very helpful and insightful in painting a complete picture of the author.
The Town and the City by Jack Kerouac
Jack Kerouac's first experimental novel before he found his true "voice." A delightful book into the young author's background and childhood.
A Most Unsuitable Match by Stephanie Grace Whelson
Ms Fanny Rousseau loses her family. So she discovers letters from an unknown Aunt - her mother's twin. She decides to go to Montana to find her. This book is about her riverboat adventures. Very good.

I'll probably put up a couple of posts with reviews to keep the posts more manageable in length. Lots of good reading here!
A review by a participant in the Family Reading Program, "Curl Up with A Good Book"
Meet Marie Grace by Sarah Masters Buckey
Meet Marie Grace is about a young girl who lives in New Orleans. Her father who is a doctor decided to move somewhere else when Marie Grace was very little, now they moved back to New Orleans. Since Marie has not been in New Orleans for a long time, she has trouble making friends. But when she meets Cecile Rey her life suddenly changes. She becomes great friends with Cecile. Meet Marie Grace is a fun and inspiring book. I recommend this book for anyone ages 8+ who love adventures. (An American Girl Adventure)

Family Review
One of the tasks for families completing the "Curl Up with a Good Book" winter reading program is to write a review. One family submitted their review as a family.
The Huckabuck Family and How They Raised Popcorn in Nebraska by Carl Sandburg.
We all liked the name of the family and thought it was funny. Their names were Jonas Jonas Huckabuck, Mama Mama Huckabuck and Pony Pony Huckabuck. It was a funny book that 's fun to read with the whole family. We recommend it to other families.

More Winter Reading Reviews!
Here are a few more reviews of what local patrons are reading this winter.
Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George.
Very fun book, a good fast simple read. Nothing too deep just lighthearted fun. Excellent book to curl up with on a cold winter's day.
Death of Kings by Bernard Cornwell.
A historical novel about England during the time of Alfred the Great. Cornwell's writing flows and you find it hard to put the book down. His characters are detailed and very human. I really enjoyed this book. I have read all of his other books in the series Saxon Tales.
Gideon's Corpse by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
Gideon's Corpse is a modern day thriller that is thought provoking. Could something like this really happen? Gideon is a likable character - a reluctant hero and also a bit of a rebel. As you read, you find yourself cheering him on.
The Captive Heart by Dale Cramer
Docu-novel an Amish who settled in Mexico. Will Miriam choose Micah and stay Amish or marry Domingo, a Mexican and give up her family. Very good. Book 2 in series.
